How to play Deadlock

Deadlock is a new project from Valve that combines the gameplay of Dota 2, Valorant and Team Fortress.

Basics of Deadlock for beginners

Deadlock is a third-person MOBA shooter. Two teams of 6 players each take part in the match. On opposite sides of the map there are opponents’ bases. The objective of the match is to destroy the main enemy robot. The bases are connected by four lines, along which waves of creeps regularly run.

During alpha testing, 21 heroes are available to users. Each character has unique abilities and passive skills, making them similar to Overwatch operatives.

Players enhance their heroes with artifacts. There are 3 types of items in the game:

• attacking – weapon damage amplification;
• mystical – ability enhancement;
• protective – increase survival rate.

There are 4 inventory spaces available for each type of item. Another 4 universal places will be opened after destroying enemy towers.

Artifacts must be bought for souls – the analog of gold from Dota 2. Souls are given for killing creeps and heroes. You can also get souls for killing allied creeps.

How to get an invitation

Invitations to Deadlock are issued to players who are already participating in the playtesting of the project. Each user can send an unlimited number of invitations. Therefore, if a player has no friends who have received an invitation to Deadlock, you can ask for an invite in themed Steam communities or Discord servers. As a rule, players go to meet each other.

Deadlock’s peak online has exceeded 170000 players due to free invitations. The average online is 70000–100000 players.

How to download Deadlock

After receiving an invite within 2 hours Valve adds the game to the player’s library. The user can download the game from Steam. The amount of memory occupied is 25 GB.

How to play around the clock

After the launch of general playtesting, you could only play Deadlock at certain times of the day. The available time depended on the server. Using console commands, users changed servers and played around the clock. Everyone knows that changing the server negatively affects the ping. High ping gives a small delay, which in a shooter directly affects the shooting and the result of the match.

Valve released a big update on September 13, 2024, in which it removed the time restrictions. Now you can play Deadlock 24/7 on any server.
